The following information was provided by John Steele:

George Newton Wright married Delilah R. Campbell on April 13, 1902. He was a life-long resident of Alleghany County and a member of the Pinnell Chapel Methodist Church. George and Delilah never had indoor plumbing in their last residence on Jonestown Road, Potts Creek. George sold pulpwood, cattle/hogs at the stockyard and was a National Forest Warden. George also cut and hauled wood for household use (heating/cooking). George hand-cured or dry-cured his meat when they butchered their stock. Delilah made jams, jellies, kept bee hives for honey, canned vegetables/meat and sold eggs, butter and milk. They would bury cabbage, turnips, etc. in their garden covered with straw, and during the winter months would dig it up as needed. They had an orchard of apple and peach trees and a grape arbor. Delilah cooked for the thrashing team every year along with the wives of the thrashers who came to assist and would contribute food. George was a member of this team made up of neighbors and friends, going from farm to farm helping each other. George would take wheat and corn to the mill, receive credit and during winter months, would get supplies and have it deducted from his credit. They had a smokehouse, spring house, well house and a hand pump well. George had his own blacksmith equipment and forged his own horseshoes. Also, they kept their mattresses stuffed with straw or feathers. Delilah always kept rather large sugar cookies in a drawer of her kitchen cabinet for anyone who happened to visit. The grandchildren always knew where they were. Sometimes, when the grandchildren would visit, George would take them swimming in Potts Creek, but, would not allow his granddaughter to go. They worked hard and was almost a 100% self reliant couple.
