Henry Joseph Charlson was born Lee Township of Norman County on 18 Nov 1896. He was the son of Erick Barney and Christianna G. Johnson Charlson. He was the 5th of 6 children born to his parents.

His siblings were: Clara Bertha Karoline 12 Sep 1887-14 Sep 1957 (Martin Nicolay Berhard Minne 2 Dec 1889 – unknown), Gjert Johan Leonard "George" 5 Dec 1889-7 Jun 1957 (Aline Mae Olesen 2 Jun 1899-8 Nov 1954), Ingeborg Gurine Margrethe 29 Jan 1892-11 Apr 1992 (Gustave Alfred Peter Mohr 21 Feb 1892-8 Jan 1957), Gerhard Bernt 11 Jun 1894-27 Aug 1902 and Peder "Christian" 4 Apr 1899-29 Nov 1974 (Evelyn _____ 18 Nov 1906-14 Oct 1974).

Henry was baptized at Bethania Lutheran on Dec. 7, 1896. He lived in Lee Township with his parents and moved to Moorhead, MN with them about 1905.

He served in the US Army before WWI. He was underage when he went into the Army. He had with him discharge papers from the Army when he went to enlist at Fargo, ND on March 22, 1918. He was not a registrant and was sent to Jefferson Barracks, MO. He served in the 23rd Company, Boston Coast Artillery Corps until his discharge at Fort Andrews, MA on August 22, 1918 as a Private. He had a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability for 25%.

In 1920 the census shows Henry as being a patient in the Naval Hospital at Mare Island, Vallejo Township, California. He was listed as an Apprentice Seaman in the US Navy. This was just after the influenza outbreak at Mare Island.

By 1930 he is living in Spokane, WA at the Arlington Hotel. His occupation is listed as actor. The city directory lists him living in the hotel for about three years before moving to a house.

Henry died 7 Oct 1933 in Spokane, WA. He was about a month short of becoming 37 years old at the time of his death. Funeral services for him were held at the Bethania Lutheran Church on October 13, 1933. Cause of death was listed as complications.
