Gertrude M. Aubrey, 93, Fargo, ND, died Friday, November 23, 2007, in Bethany Cares, Fargo.

Gertrude Martha Houglum was born on May 1, 1914, to Bendick and Clara (Johnson) Houglum in Perley, MN. She was baptized in Perley and confirmed in Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Perley. Gertrude attended school in Perley and graduated from high school in Moorhead, MN. She then graduated from the Ada (MN) Normal School with a teaching certificate.

Gertrude taught at the Norby School near Ada, MN, and the Henderson School, District 93, in rural Halstad, MN. She then moved to California and taught preschool until starting her career at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co., where she worked until her retirement.

On August 7, 1943, Gertrude married E.R. "Bob" Aubrey in Los Angeles, CA. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Los Angeles area. In 1981, they moved to Branson, Missouri. They lived in Branson during the winters and spent their summers at their lake home on Turtle Lake, rural Hawley, MN.

Bob died in 1989 and Gertrude moved to Moorhead. In 2004, she became a resident at Bethany.

Gertrude's faith was very important to her and she was active in her church. She enjoyed the women's groups, Christmas programs and she taught Sunday school. She also enjoyed traveling and took a trip to Norway. Family was also extremely important to her.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Arnold, Bennett, Ernest, and Hjalmer; a brother-in-law, Mervin Johnson; a sister-in-law, Verena Houglum; a niece, Margaret Smith; and a nephew, Darrell Houglum.

Burial: Bethania Lutheran Cemetery, Perley, MN.
