Isaïe du Matz de Montmartin, chevalier, conseiller du roi en ses conseils d'état et privé, seigneur du Puy-Papin (near Pouzauges-le-Vieux, Bas-Poitou), was born on 16 Dec. 1577 at the Château de Terchant (near Ruillé-le-Gravelais, Bas-Maine). An account of his career as a diplomat can be found on pp. 404-405 of La France Protestante, ou Vies des Protestants Français, Tome IV (Paris, 1853). He assisted with the negotiations leading to the capitulation of Saint-Jean-d'Angely in 1621. From 1622 he served as député général des églises réformées du Poitou, and in 1623 presented a list of grievances from these churches to King Louis XIII. Some of his extant letters have been published.

His wife was Charlotte Des Nouës (d. aft. 1645), lady of La Caillère, younger daughter of chevalier François Des Nouës de La Tabarière (d. 1604), baron of La Lande and Sainte-Hermine, by his second wife Madeleine d'Aulnis, lady of Pont-de-Vie and Cerzé, daughter of Charles d'Aulnis, lord of Pont-de-Vie and Cerzé, by his wife Renée de Montauzier. Charlotte had an elder half-brother Jacques Des Nouës (1573-1631), marquis de La Tabarière.
