Farmer. Son of James & Abigail (Gilmore) Hunter. He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Lancaster as a young man, and remained in it his entire life. Resided in Lancaster, Ohio, for over fifty years. Married Mary Alice Grier in 1860. They had ten children, including a daughter who died in infancy. After his wife's death in 1904, William moved to Columbus, Ohio, to be cared for by his daughter Lulu (Mrs. C. E.) Linville.
