Lulu E. Snyder, 91 of Akron, quietly passed away on October 28, 2011 in the Washington County Nursing Home. Lulu was born on July 3, 1920, as was her twin, Lucille, who passed shortly afterward, to Walter and Alice (Hobbs) Brown near Denova, Colorado.

Lulu grew up on the family homestead with her six siblings in southern Washington County. She attended schools nearby, including graduating from High Prairie School in 1938. She often told her children and grandchildren stories of her senior year and being a member of the girls' high school basketball team's district championship.

After graduation, she worked for the Dansdill Family and met Ralph L. Snyder during this time and on September 25, 1941, they were married in St. Francis, Kansas. They made their life together on the Snyder homestead south of Akron, east of Elba, working the land and raising cattle.

Lulu was very involved in the First United Methodist Church of Akron after they built their home in town in 1955. She was also a member for many years of the Rebecca's, the Book Chatter Club, Home Extension Club and she and Ralph spent many Saturday evenings playing cards with the Town and Country Card Club. They loved music and square danced, round danced, folk danced and often would just dance in the living room to the radio or the record player.

She was a devoted mother to her children and partner to Ralph, was a homemaker by trade, but of course, that hat included raising a very large garden, canning, driving trucks, herding cattle, hauling wheat, crocheting for all and working side-by-side with her husband as they built their life together. Really, until Ralph passed away, they were inseparable.

Lulu is survived by her four children, Beverly of DeWitt, IA, Marlin (Sharon) of Akron, CO, Loren, of Windsor, CO and Milton (Rhonda) of Greeley, CO, along with 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Marrietta Koch, sister-in-law, Lovernne Brown, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Cecil, Harry, Peurlie; sisters, Velma and Beulah.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Akron. Interment followed at Akron Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church. Brenner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
