Ellery J. Wight, age 88, of Rupert, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Countryside Care and Rehabilitation Center in Rupert.

Ellery was born Aug. 1, 1923, in American Fork, Utah, the son of James Hurren and Louisa Armstrong Wight. He received his education in Utah and graduated from Jordan High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Following his military duty, Ellery served as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission for the LDS Church from 1947 until 1949. He married Ella Rae Wilson on June 16, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

In February 1954, Ellery, his wife and children, moved to Rupert after drawing a farm on the Northside Project of the Homestead Act. Here, they farmed and raised their family. Ellery also worked for many years for the Minidoka County School District in the custodial department. He was a member of the LDS Church and served in various capacities. He loved watching sports, driving throughout the area looking at the various farms and ranches, gardening, and was an avid reader.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Paul LDS Stake Center, 424 W. Ellis St., with Bishop Shannon D. Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the American Fork City Cemetery in American Fork, Utah.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
