Harvey E. Elder, 98, of Agency died at 8:25 a.m. Dec. 23, 1985 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa. He was born April 9, 1887 in Davis County near Ash Grove to Benjamin and Mary Tharp Elder. He married Nellie Robb on March 24, 1909, in Centerville. They were the oldest living married couple in Iowas and had lived in Mt. Pleasant and Agency for the the past 60 years. He had been an employee of the CB and Q Railroad for 33 years, retiring in 1956. He was a member of the Agency United Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Maintenance of Way.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Clarence of Long Beach, California, Vern of Drakesville, and Max of Wilmington, Delaware; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Agency United Methodist Church, the Rev. Dale Gray officiating. Burial will be in Agency Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The family will be at the Reece Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m.
The memorial has been established to the Agency United Methodist Church.
