The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Rev. Jake Sharpe. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Byrd was born July 4, 1920, in Forsyth County to Avery Columbus Byrd and Phoebe Clemintine Prevette Byrd. Before his retirement, he was a truck driver for the N.C. Department of Transportation. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Bervin Byrd and Issac Byrd, and five sisters, Flora Scott, Arilla Southern, Violet Washburn, Grace Smith and Laramie Johnson.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Jordan Byrd of the home; two sons, Herman W. Byrd of Joliet, Ill., and Roger Byrd of Lexington; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of a son, Roger Byrd, 173 Ronnie Mock Road.
