Georgia Governor. In 1775, he joined the Revolutionary War cause as a Colonel of the Georgia Burke County militia, serving as a commander and scout. He was captured by the British near McBean Creek, but escaped and made his way back to American forces. Entering politics in 1780, he was commissioner of Burke County, justice of the peace of Burke County (1781-82), a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, (1782-83, 85-87, 89, 96) and associate justice of Burke County, (1784, 86). In addition, he was a member of the Georgia State Senate, (1797-1801). On March 3, 1801, when Governor James Jackson resigned from office, Emanuel was appointed as Democratic-Republican, the 24th Governor of Georgia, serving until November 7, 1801. After leaving office, he returned to his seat in the Georgia State Senate and served until his death at age 65.
