Elizabeth Gittinger Ellis, 87, died July 5, 2001, in Bolivar, MO . Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. July 9, at the First Christian Church, 1515 South St., Lexington, MO . Visitation will precede the service at 1 p.m. Rev. Donna Murphy-Ceradsky will officiate and interment will be immediately following the service at the Machpelah Cemetery under the direction of the Butler Funeral Home, Bolivar, MO . Contributions may be in her memory to Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Lexington First Christian Church, American Cancer Society, or Bolivar Hospice.

Elizabeth was born August 18, 1913, in Kidder, MO , to Lula Velina and Joseph Norman Gittinger. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1931, and attended one year at William Jewell College. She married Ed Ellis who coached at Liberty High School, St. Joe Central, and 35 years at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS. Elizabeth and Ed retired to Lexington, MO , where she was a member of the First Christian Church, the Lafayette-Lexington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Lafayette County Historical Association, and the Lexington Library Historical Society. In 1999, she moved into Butterfield Residential Care, Bolivar, MO , where she lived until June 14, when she entered Citizen's Memorial Hospital. Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Jobeth and Nick Maas, Bolivar, a grandson and his wife, Nicholas and Kathryn Maas, Bolivar, and granddaughter, Betsy and Terry Davidson, Oklahoma City, four great-grandchildren, Katlyn Faye Maas, Hannah Jane Davidson, Sarah Jobeth Davidson, and Samuel Paul Davidson, three nephews, Paul A. White, Kansas City, Charles N. White, Connecticut, and Robert M. White, Overland Park, six nieces, Patricia Welborn, Gerre Gibson, and Barbara Kay Pratt, Kansas City, Virginia White and Kristy Chapman, Overland Park, and Jane Colwell, Leawood.
