Hackel entered films as a producer of Western films and programs starring Johnny Mack Brown and Bob Steele. Hackel died from heart failure after producing 59 films.
Aaron William Hackel was born to Benjamin and Mollie Hackel. He came to America when he was 12 with his brother who was 14, in 1895. They lived with an Aunt, Uncle, and many cousins in New York. He and his brother started working in garment factories and, eventually, manufactured Women's ready to wear and coats. AW (as he was often called, then owned a garment factory in LA from which he retired in about in the early 20s.
After he sold his factory, he began producing movies.
He had an excellent head for business, he was adored by his family, had a wicked sense of humor, and was truly an immigrant success story.
