Obituary for George W. Kraus, from the Monroe Evening Times; Wednesday, January 28, 1959:
George W. Kraus, 41, of 1410 17th Avenue, Monroe, Wisconsin, a veteran of World War II, died unexpectedly at 1:40 p.m. yesterday at St. Clare Hospital. Mr. Kraus suffered a heart attack Monday.
He was born the son of William and Mary Flannery Kraus on May 25, 1917, in Jordan Township. He attended Jordan and Monroe Township schools.
Mr. Kraus entered service on February 11, 1942, and was discharged October 18, 1945. During active duty he was decorated with the good conduct medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern theater ribbon; the silver battle star, four overseas service bars and one service stripe.
Mr. Kraus was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Evangelical & Reformed Church in Monroe. He never married.
Survivors are his father; three brothers, James Kraus, Shannon, IL; Wilbert, Argyle, WI; and Herbert, Route 3, Monroe; and two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Marie) Lueck, rural Browntown, WI; and Miss Helen, who lived at home with her brother and father. His mother died July 1, 1958.
Services will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday at the Stuessy Funeral Home. Rev. Paul H. Olm of St. John's Church will officiate with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe.
