He served in the militia and answered the Alarm of April 19th, 1775 and marched to Cambridge MA, he served as a Selectman in the town in 1778 and 1779. He and his first wife Sarah are still buried on the Worcester Common behind City Hall. Though he and at least one of his brothers were Patriots and served in the Continental Army his father was a Loyalist.when hostilities first broke out.
