Joseph F. ‘Bud' Gulde Jr., 81, of North Fort Myers, FL died on October 29, 2011 at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, FL. He was born on November 4, 1929 in Rushville, IN, a child of the late Joseph F. and Ann (Ayres) Gulde Sr. A longtime resident of Fort Myers before moving to North Fort Myers 10 years ago, he spent the first 50 years of his life in his hometown of Rushville, IN where he raised seven children with his wife Janet, known as Tibby by all. Tibby ran across the country with parents and future in-laws in tow to marry Bud in a civil ceremony in Long Beach, CA just before he shipped out to sea with the Navy to fight in the Korean Conflict.
Returning safely home two years later, Bud became a master carpenter and worked alongside his brother Bill with Joe Gulde, Sr. in the family contracting business, Joe Gulde and Sons, Inc. until moving to Florida in 1981. Among the many structures built by the company in and around Rushville a few standout including Miller's Merry Manor (formerly Jackson Nursing Home) the City of Rushville Waterworks Building, the Fire Station, the Rush County Highway Department Building and numerous other commercial and residential buildings. Bud owned a custom window installation business in Ft. Myers, FL for many years and continued to work construction, specializing in finish work into his late 70s.
Bud served as a Rushville City Councilman and was a long time-member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. Bud was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church until moving to FL where he was most recently a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in North Fort Myers. Bud was the husband of the late Janet (Dearinger) Gulde who died in 2005 and father of the late Cynthia Barnard and James Gulde. Bud is survived by his children: Joseph F. (wife Mari) Gulde, Jr., Chistopher Gulde, Rebecca Gulde and Steven Gulde of North Fort Myers, FL; Nicholas Gulde of Provincetown, MA.; his grandchildren, Justin Schnitker and Tyler and Alyssa Gulde; and his brother and sister-in-law, Bill (wife Karmen) Gulde of Rushville, IN. In addition to his parents and one daughter and one son, his sisters who preceded him in death were Josephine Weidner, Margory "Red" McGrath, Barbara Schmall and Anna Katherine Cole and one infant brother.
Graveside Services will take place 11AM November 22nd at Rushville's Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Gries officiating. Friends may call at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory in Rushville Monday, November 21st from 5 to 8 PM.
