After his divorce after 24 years of marriage, he met a 28-year-old, Nanette Johnston, and they were engaged. Bill added her to his will and took out a life insurance policy with Nanette as the beneficiary. Nanette and her boyfriend at the time, Eric Naposki, have been accused of murdering Mr. McLaughlin for his money. Naposki was found guilty of murder. Nanette's trial is set to begin in November, 2011.
