From the Crookston Daily Times – May 13, 1912
Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock Miss Lulu Tiedt of Argyle age 20 was instantly killed and Miss Ruth Misner of Euclid was so badly injured that she died two hours later when the automobile in which they were riding was struck by a south bound freight train.

Exactly how the accident occurred will not be known till the evidence has been taken at the coroner's inquest at Argyle today. As near a can be learned they were being given a ride by Mr Tiedt. Approaching the Great Northern crossing at Argyle from the east, the drivers attention was attracted by a horse driven by two children in a buggy. The horse was afraid and Mr Tiedt cut out the engine intending to let the horse pass. Just at the auto was reaching the railroad track, one of the girls saw the freight train which was nearly upon them and shouted "My God, the train" This was the first warning the driver had and one story is that he grabbed wildly for the emergency lever but missed it till the second attempt bringing the auto to a standstill with the front wheels on the track. The other is that he threw the machine immediately into high gear and killed the engine. At all events, the engine hit the front of the automobile and hurled it with terrific force. Miss Tiedt being instantly killed and Miss Ruth Misner lived but two hours one arm being nearly severed and other fatal injuries sustained.
The news of the tragedy came as a terrible shock to friends and relatives in Crookston, Miss Tiedt was well known here having made her home for some time prior. She was a young lady beloved by all who knew her and her generous sunny disposition had endeared her to all.

Miss Ruth Misner was also well known here having often visited this city. She was a young lady loved by a wide circle of acquaintances and her death has caused the deepest sorrow both here and at Euclid, where she was a clerk in the store of her stepfather Peter Stuhr and Euclid people are especially grieved as Miss Tiedt also made her home in Euclid for many years prior to living in Argyle and Crookston.

The funeral of Miss Tiedt took place at Argyle and of Miss Misner at Euclid both at 2:00 this afternoon and about 50 people from Crookston left to attend one or the other this morning
