Lawrence Findley
Lawrence Findley, 83, of Seymour died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Heritage House.
Mr. Findley was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. He was president of Findley Industries Inc. until his retirement in 1991, and he was affiliated with the lumber industry for more than 65 years. He was a charter member of Peter's Switch Church of the Nazarene, where he attended for 40 years. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church and supported and worked with Gideon's International.

Born Feb. 5, 1918, in Seymour, he was the son of Walter Scott Findley and Maude Weasner Findley. In 1938, he married Nelma Agatha Hein, who preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Norman (Eileen) Foster, Mrs. Daniel J. (Naomi) Russell and Pamela Kay Findley, all of Seymour; a daughter-in-law, Phoebe Findley of Butlerville; two granddaughters, Mrs. Brian (Kimberly) Niewedde of Lawrenceburg and Mrs. Randy (Vickie) Banister of Seymour; four grandsons, Gregory Findley of Seymour, Todd (Chris) Foster of Indianapolis, Cpl. Christopher (Kimberly) Clegg of USMC Miramar in San Diego and Judd (Sophia) Foster of Temecula, Calif.; two stepgrandsons, Tracy Banks of Medora and Jon Russell of Bloomington; two stepgranddaughters, Ashley Russell of Fredericksburg and Megan Russell of Seymour; 10 great-grandsons, Chad Dixon, Ethan Banister and Craig Banister, all of Seymour, Matthew Niewedde, Adam Niewedde and Jason Niewedde, all of Lawrenceburg, Zachary Foster, Nicholas Foster and Justin Foster, all of Indianapolis, and Christopher David Clegg of San Diego.; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Lacey Banks of Seymour; five sisters, Gladys Lucas, Mrs. Edward (Betty) Hudson, Mrs. Joseph (Marjorie) Sentz and Mrs. Glen (Sue) Murphy, all of Seymour, and Mrs. Merrill (Rosemary) Mellencamp of Bowling Green, Ky.; two brothers, Robert (Margaruite) Findley of Reddington and Billy Max (Rosemary) Findley of Seymour; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence LeRoy Findley; a brother, Eugene (Snapp) Findley; a sister, Opal Findley Bieneke; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Jayne Findley.

The Rev. D.G. Morris will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
