He moved with his parents to Granville, NY. He later moved to Sandy Creek, Oswego Co. NY. In 1800 he came to the town of Adams and in 1805 settled in Lorraine where at one time he owned an estimated 2,000 acres of land. At various times he operated a grist mill, a sawmill, had a distilling and a store in Lorraine. In 1830 he was NYS assemblyman. He also served as town clerk, commissioner of highways, and justice of the peace. He was a principle in helping to form the Lorraine Baptist Church.
