Funeral services were conducted from Union Memorial church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Albert Gottsche of Milford, who died last Wednesday night at the Spencer hospital. Mr. Gottsche was 83 years of age.

Rev. Hoffman of Spencer officiated at the last rites, which were arranged by Leysons. Nephews of Mr. Gottsche sang "Rock of Ages." They were Cecil, Clarence, Maurice and Mervin Weaver, all of Griswold. A solo Beyond the Sunset" was sung by Cecil Weaver. Mrs. Prank Fellows was accompanist. The many beautiful floral arrangements were cared for by Mrs Frank Hemphill, Mrs. Jennie Green and Mrs. Harry Wilson of Arnolds Park.

Interment was made in Okoboji Cemetery, with Boscoe Jones, Orville Robinson, Ernest Robinson, Wilbur Leitch, Dale Olson and Marion Price serving as casket bearers for their long time neighbor.

Mr. Gottsche entered the Spencer hospital the first time on March 9, and underwent major surgery twice for amputation of his limb, following a blood clot which formed as the result of arteriosclerosis. He withstood this surgery and was permitted to return to the home of his son-inlaw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Eckman in Arnolds Park, where he and Mrs. Gottsche stayed during his convalescence. Last Monday his condition was such that further surgery was necessary and he re-entered the Spencer hospital. His death came just before midnight Wednesday.

Albert Gottsche was born June 8, 1873, in Ehnshorn, Germany, and died at the age of 83 years, 19 days, on June 27, 1956. Albert was an only child and following the death of his parents, he came to America at the age of 16 with his grandparents, and settled with them in Atlantic, Iowa.

He was united in marriage with Lena Borth in Cass county on Jan. 24, 1900, and they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary here on Jan. 24, 1950. At that time then eight children, with all of their families, joined in entertaining for their parents, at the Ray Gottsche home in Milford.

To this union eight children were born, all of whom survive. They are Ralph of Griswold, George, Gilbert and Ray of Milford, Floyd of Spirit Lake, Elsie, Mrs. Lawrence Mueller of Griswold, Grace, Mrs. Clarence Eckman of Arnolds Park, and Dorothy, Mrs. Kenneth Boyer of Lake Park.

Albert and Lena Gottsche established their first home on a farm near Ludden, N. D., which, they purchased. They lived there for three years before returning to Cumberland, Iowa, in 1903. In 1908 they came to Dickinson county and have resided here continuously since that time. They farmed west of Milford until 1915, then moved to their present home in Center Grove township, east of Milford.

Mr. Gottsche had been In. failing health for the past three years but always maintained a cheerful outlook. He especially enjoyed his children, and his sons-in-law and daughters-in-law were as dear to him as his own sons and daughters; he looked forward to those occasions which would bring all of his family together. Neighborhood children were all dear friends of Mr. Gotttsche, and many of them called Mr. and Mrs. Gottsche "grandpa" and "grandma." He loved his flowers, and spent many happy hours working with them.

Survivors besides Mrs. Gottsche and the children, are 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
