ANDOVER, Va. — DJ "Red" Crum, 77, born in West Virginia, May 21, 1933, entered into peaceful rest with the Lord on Saturday, (Nov. 13, 2010) at his home in Andover.

He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

D.J. came to Appalachia from West Virginia, Feb. 10, 1955, at the request of Jim Hamer to help build the sawmill, originally known as Hamer Lumber, on Kent Junction Road.

He retired from sawmilling after 43 years of work which he loved as much as the men he worked with. He loved all people, fishing and hunting, but his best love was God and family. He made a loving home with Carol for 54 years in Andover, Va. He was also a member of the Andover Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, McClellan and Hazel Crum of West Virginia; daughter, Sheri Lee Crum of Andover; sister, Shirley Crum McNeil of Florida; father and mother-in-law, Ed and Mary Smith of Andover, Va.; brother-in-laws, Earl Hubbard of Indiana, Troy Perry of West Virginia.

D.J. is survived by his loving wife, Carol Carter Crum; daughter Teresa (Charlie) Barnett; sons, Ronnie Crum, David (Heather) Crum; six grandchildren, Jessica and Laura Barnett, Ashley and Ethan Crum, Eli and Emaree Crum; great-grandchild Colton Huffman; brother Junior Crum and sister Verlie Perry of West Virginia; brothers and sisters- in-law, Reeser (Ann) Carter of Utah, Doug Carter of Andover, Betty Jo Hubbard of Indiana, Larry (Geneva) Carter of Andover, and several nieces and nephews.

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Campbell and staff of Appalachian Healthcare, Dr. Ahmad of Kingsport, Dr. Kerny and staff at Wellmont Lonesome Pine, Lori and Dina from Advanced Home Care, and the Appalachia Rescue Squad.

A very special thank you to Rev. Tony Nunley and the Andover Church family.

The family will receive friends at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home Monday from 6 to 8.

Funeral services will follow in the chapel with Rev. Tony Nunley officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at the American Legion Cemetery.

Family and friends will leave in procession at 11 a.m. from the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Andover Church.

Roy A. Green Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
