Mrs. Shively was born October 7, 1854, the daughter of General Bartram Augustus and Martha (Strickler) Shaeffer, of Lancaster, Pa. She moved to Waynesboro in 1881, a year after her marriage to Dr. Shively, who died in 1893.
She was a member of the Lutheran church and took an active part in church work until her health failed.
Surviving are the following children: Miss Lillian, Bartram and Charles, Waynesboro; Mrs. J. E. Wolfong, Wallingford, Conn.; Mrs. Carl Steglich, Philadelphia, and Richard McGrann, Cleveland, Ohio. Four grandchildren, Winifred, Jeanne and Richard Shively, Cleveland, and Donald Shively, Waynesboro; one sister, Mrs. William R. Gregg, Denver, Colorado, and four nephews also survive.
