Life Story of Walter Glaze

Walter H.B.Glaze first opened his eyes on March 11, 1909 in Huntsville, TX. He came into this world in the early years of the 20th century and stayed around long enough to help kick-off the 21st century. The son of Lee Glaze and Lizzie Hightower, he was born in a house owned by his grandfather, John " Tip " Hightower, a former slave who lived to become a successful landowner.

After receiving all of the education that was available at Cotton Creek School in Huntsville, Walter embarked upon life as a farmer on land handed down by his grandfather
"Tip". In 1930, he was wed to the former Virginia this union, Six children were born: Mamie, Gilbert, Ida, Curtis, Alford (deceased after a few days)and John.

A veteran of the United states Navy, Walter served his country during World War II. Upon returning home,he went back to school and studied carpentry and agriculture under the veteran's plan.

An expert at hunting and fishing, Walter loved the woods and the water. After the war, he helped to feed his family by trapping mink, fox and other wild animals whose pelts were profitable, For a while, he ventured into the business of chicken farming.

It was as an adult that Walter gave his life to Christ and united with the, then Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, the worship home of his mother, Lizzie, and his grandfather, John. He was a faithful member of this body of believers until he departed this life on October 23,2011, the day before the birthdays of three of his children.

The multitude left to celebrate the wonderful life of Walter Glaze includes his five children, Mamie, Gilbert,
(Bernice), Ida, Curtis (Cerment),and John(Jean);one sister, Emma Jean; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren;more nieces and nephews than we are aware; more cousins then we can count; and more friends than we will ever know.

He will be greatly missed by all..
