Born in 1864, the son of John and Marie Clasen, he started carpentry work when he was 15 years of age and continued until 1893 when he became a farmer and bee keeper. Mr. Clasen in later years became one of the foremost bee keepers in the state. He retired five years ago. Mr. Clasen served as treasurer of the town of Newton for two years, president of the Newton Fire Insurance agency and president of the English Lake Telephone company.
He married Louise Lemke in November 1887. His wife preceeded him in death 29 years ago.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Matthias of Liberty and Mrs. Walter Kolb of Newton; two sons, Adolph of Newton and Herman of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Ricka Goeters of Chicago and Mrs. Anna Nauman of Newton; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Berge funeral home. Valders and at 2 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church at Newton with the Rev. Edward H. Kionka officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
