David was born in Belfast, Ireland, and immigrated with his family as a small child to York County, Pennsylvania.
He married Jean Johnston on February 1, 1780.

Soldier in the American Revolution
Enlisted in York County, Pennsylvania, served in New Jersey, and re-enlisted in what was called the Flying Camp under Col. William Cosby. He aided in the building of Ft. Lee and retreated when Ft. Washington was taken. He was with Gen. George Washington that Christmas night that Washington crossed the Delaware River.
Was placed in the pension roll of Miami County, Ohio
Allowed pension September 25, 1832
