4th Baron Hamilton of Strabane

Son of Claud Hamilton, 2nd Baron Hamilton of Strabane, and Lady Jean Gordon. Paternal grandson of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Abercorn, and Marion Boyd. Maternal grandson of George Gordon, 1st Marquess of Huntly, and Lady Henrietta Stuart.

George succeeded to the title in 1655, on the death of his unmarried elder brother James.

He married Elizabeth Fagan, daughter of Christopher Fagan of Feltrim, and they were parents to four children - sons Claud and Charles, and daughters Anne and Mary.

Both of his sons would later succeeded to the earldom of Abercorn. George's youngest daughter Mary was born after his death.

He was succeeded by his eldest son Claud, who became 4th Earl of Abercorn in 1680. His widow died in 1683.

The church where he lies buried is now a ruin on the grounds of the former Kenure Park estate.

During the 12th Earl of Ormond's exile and dispossession during the Jacobean period, the Hamiltons occupied Kenure, where George died and was buried at St. Catherine's church.

Kenure House changed hands many times in the centuries that followed and was demolished in 1978.
