Lloyd Ernest Thompson was born December 3rd, 1891, in Clyde, Jasper County, Iowa, the first child of Samuel C. Thompson and Sarah Adell (Stock) Thompson.

In 1895, the family lived in Rose Grove Township (aka Skunk Grove or Boone Township, according to lore), Hamilton County, Iowa, some 40+ miles north-northwest of Clyde, where Samuel is recorded in the 1895 census as a farmer. Lloyd is 3 years old in 1895. Also in the household are his sisters, Myrtle, born 1893, and Anna, 1895. Myrtle tragically passed away on October 7, 1897 and is buried in the Ashton Chapel Churchyard near Clyde, just off present-day I-65. Anna also disappears from the historical record during this same period. She may be buried with Myrtle at Ashton Chapel but no records have been found so far. By 1900, the family has moved to Collins Township, which is near the city of Collins, in Story County, Iowa, a mere five miles from Clyde. Lloyd is 8 years old, attending school, and the year before, his brother Merle was born, in 1899.

In 1910, Lloyd is now 18 years old. After Merle, the family was joined by Mildred (1902), Fred (1904), Ray (1906), and Kenneth (1908). All would live to adulthood. The family now lives outside Mitchell, Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska. Mitchell is at the western edge of Nebraska, some 12 miles from the Wyoming border and Lloyd is a laborer at the alfalfa mill.

In 1912, Lloyd was united in marriage to Frances Aimee Ferguson, usually known as Aimee. They apparently made their home together nearby. On January 9, 1914, their first child, a daughter, Loydea Vivian Thompson was born in Minatare, Scotts Bluff County. Minatare is located some 20 miles east and south of Mitchell on present day I-26. She would be followed by a brother, Wayne, in 1916. In 1917, the family had moved to Gurley, Cheyenne County, Nebraska, some forty miles southeast of Minatare, where Lloyd was registered for the draft. There are no records he was ever drafted or served in any capacity. He is now 25 years old and working as a barber. Lloyd's parents have moved farther west by 1920.

In 1920, the family is living in Medicine Bow, Carbon County, Wyoming. Lloyd's children would fondly recall growing up in Medicine Bow and telling stories of their childhood here. Lloyd is now 28 years old and still barbering. In 1922, the family would be joined by their third child and second son, William Ferguson "Bill" Thompson. Bill was born at Fort Collins, Colorado but the family apparently still lived in Medicine Bow and would continue to live there through 1930. The ages of the family in 1930 are 38 (Lloyd), 35 (Aimee), 15 (Loydea), 14 (Wayne), and 7 (Bill).

Loydea graduated high school in Medicine Bow in 1931 and according to her obituary, she lived for a short while in Los Angeles, California and then came to Independence, Missouri. According to census records, the family lived in Independence in 1935, and so whether the entire family went to Los Angeles or only Loydea, is a matter of debate. In 1930, Samuel and Sarah were living in Burbank, Los Angeles County, California. Regardless, between 1930 and 1935, the family departed their home of Medicine Bow and moved to Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. Lloyd again worked as a barber. In 1939, Lloyd's father, Samuel C. Thompson, passed away at the age of 66. By 1940, Loydea was no longer living at home.

At this point, fewer public records exist. Loydea would marry Louis Garner Elser and worked in nursing her entire life. Wayne later moved to California. Bill would marry Eleanor Lenox in 1950. Lloyd reported ran a grocery store near 23rd and Indiana Streets in Independence, according to Bill.

Lloyd's mother would pass away in 1960, brother Merle died earlier in 1954, and Kenneth in 1961. No records indicate that Lloyd and Aimee ever left Independence. Lloyd passed away on August 15, 1970, at age 78. He was buried at Mound Grove Cemetery, in Independence. He was survived by his wife, Aimee; and siblings, Mildred, Fred, and Ray. Aimee would live another 19 years, passing in 1989. Loydea would live to age 92, passing away March 30, 2006, followed by Bill on May 1, 2009, at age 86. Wayne passed some time after Bill.
