Judith Kay Layton Richins died suddenly on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 while vacationing with her husband in Bermuda.

She was beloved by many but most especially by her devoted companion and her family whom she loved and tirelessly served.

She was born January 14, 1944 in Brownwood, Texas. She married Ross Albert Richins on November 20, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of six children and twenty-three grandchildren.

One who gave freely of time, resources, and talent she has selflessly served her community and church. Most recently she loved teaching Relief Society at the Salt Lake County Jail Women's Facility.

She enjoyed the arts (music, theatre, painting) and they were vital parts of her life. Examples of this were her involvement for twenty-eight years in the annual Draper production of the Messiah and serving for seventeen years as a docent at the LDS Church Museum of Art.

She and her husband fulfilled a full time mission in London, England from October 2007-April 2009. She cherished this experience and the friendships made.

She was genuinely interested in other people. She will always be remembered for the constant smile on her face, her big hugs, and her optimistic outlook.

Her love, focus, and support for all of those around her will never be forgotten. She had tremendous faith in her Savior Jesus Christ and faith that He would guide and direct our personal lives.

She is survived by her husband, Ross Albert Richins, Draper; and children, Jill Henry (Doug), Tooele; Christy Ogden (Chad), Lehi; Melissa Kimball (Tom), Lubbock, Texas; Jennifer Morris (Tim), Salt Lake; Spencer (Heather), Bluffdale; Scott (Amy), Portland, Oregon, and twenty-three grandchildren.

Judy is also survived by her mother, Mona S. Layton, Salt Lake; and by her mother-in-law, Hazel Richins, Orem. Surviving brothers and sisters include: Margaret Cardall (Duane), Salt Lake City; Alan S. (Leslie), Salt Lake City; Marilyn Hendrickson (Art), Salt Lake City; Janet Hilton (Matt), Kaysville; Mona Davis (Kelly), St. George; Mark S. (Leesa), Vancouver, B.C.; Marianne Marlor (Brad), South Jordan; David S. (Julie), Holladay.

Come help us celebrate her life at funeral services to be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in the Corner Canyon Second Ward Chapel, 13366 South 1300 East, Draper. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 7:00-9:30 p.m. at the same address and also from 10:00-11:30 a.m. prior to the services.
