Wilma Ann Garretson was born to Francis Marion and "Janie" Cherry Garretson in 1921. She was one of nine siblings. Her two eldest sisters were born to Frank Garretson and his first wife, Willie Saphronia Vincent. They were:

Lillian Margaret 1911-2005 (m. Clark Anthony)
Lena Mae 1913-1992 (m. Ed Ray)

After Willie died in 1914, Frank married Janie Cherry. They had seven children:

Edna Marie 1920-1991 (m. Frank Stout)
Wilma Ann 1921-2008 (m.Cyril Hedrick)
Gladys Louise 1923-2009 (m.Atlas Stone)
Velva Lucille 1925-1974(m. Willie Stone)

Wilma had an early marriage from which one son and one daughter were born. In 1948, she and Cyril Hedrick were married. Wilma worked tirelessly on family genealogy, which she loved and generously shared. She devotedly cared for her mother during Janie's long illness.
