Son of Barnabas Nye Douglass and Phebe Nye Swift, he married 1st. Emeline Frances Smith in Acushnet, Massachusetts on December 18, 1864.

2. Walter Franklin, b. 1869, d. 1954, m. Cora Belle Bennett
Widowed in 1870, he married 2nd. Sylvia H. Stevens on September 14, 1873. The marriage was registered in the VR for Acushnet, Fairhaven and New Bedford but none of them specify where the marriage took place, just that the rite was performed by the Rev. William T. Worth, who was the pastor of the Pleasant Street Methodist Episcopal Church of New Bedford.

Widowed a second time in 1885, he maried 3rd. Lydia Wallace Hallett in Wckford, Rhode Island on October 19, 1904.
