His mother Anna died in a fire in Chicago, there is little information on mother Anna.**
His father re-married Katherine (Sladek) in 1865, and they settled on a farm near Seneca. It was in this vicinity that Mike Benhart lived most of his life.
On May 31, 1888 he was united in marriage with Emma Phillipp in the Lutheran church of Prairie du Chien. To this union one son Louis H. was born, (Mar. 1889) who now resides at Port Arthur, Texas.
Until the year 1890 Mr. and Mrs. Benhart made their home on a farm near Seneca, after which time they moved to Prairie du Chien. For nine years Mr. Benhart worked as a carpenter for Mr. Deitrick on the pontoon bridge and Milwaukee railroad. Later he took to farming again. In 1912 he retired from actual farming and again made his home in Prairie du Chien. During the years 1928-1930 the Benharts spent visiting in Texas.
Ill health caused Mr. Benhart to give up his carpenter work. Two months ago he suffered a severe paralytic stroke. A few days before his death he contracted pneumonia. Wednesday, Dec 9, at 5:30 a.m. he departed this life. He had attained the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 25 days.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, his son, Lewis of Port Arthur, Texas; two brothers, Edward of Mason City, Iowa, and Frank of Seneca, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted in Salem Evangelical church of Eastman, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13, J.W. Bartel officiating. Interment was made in the Campell cemetery.
