RADFORD - Betty Dove Young Simpkins, 84, died, peacefully at her home Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001.

She was born March 7, 1916 in Franklin County to the late Madison Milton and Rainy McGhee Young.

She was a member of the Morgan's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a retired Hercules, Inc. employee of 25 years at RAAP.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jessie O'Dell "Shorty" Young; brothers, Lewis, Buford and Milton Young; sisters, Sarah Gordon, Oyler Houseman, Gladys Bowman and Rainy Lee Hylton; and a son-in-law, Vernon Poff.

Surviving are her husband, Hampton J. Simpkins, Radford; her children, Bernie and Martha Young, Vinton; Clarice and Buddy Hawley, Radford; Ruby Poff, Fort Valley; Erma and Barry Albert, Parrott; Carolyn and Jerry Boyd, Clarksville, Tenn.; a brother, William Guinn Young, Martinsville; a sister, Josephine Ferguson, Rocky Mount; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Rev. Stove Carter and Rev. Roger Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park. Arrangements by DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.
