Jessie Margaret Grant, affectionately know as "Bop", made her grand entrance into this world on April 13, 1932 in Winona, Texas. She was one of three children born to Jesse Phillips and Vernette Moore. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA where she received her formal education at Jefferson High School. She then continued her education at Los Angeles Trade Tech taking up several courses to help launch her career with Los Angles County where she retired as Active Director of social Services after more than 25 years of service. Jessie had a special place in her heart for working with children and that reflected in her life at work and at home. After retiring, Jessie continued working with children as a organizer of several Magic Johnson basketball camps and various talent scouting events which resulted in the discovery of such groups as Immature featuring Marcus Huston.

Jessie accepted Christ early in life and was baptized at Mt. Vine Baptist Church in Winona, Texas. She loved reading, being with her family, solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, watching horses, road trips and having fun with friends. Jessie touched the lives of many people with her compassion, unconditional love and gentle spirit. She had a vibrant, cheerful and welcoming spirit that made her loved by many.

On Sunday, May 23, 2010 at approximately 3:45 a.m., Jessie was ushered from this world into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior. She maintained her trademark joyful. spirit all the way to the to the end.

Jessie will forever be remembered by her devoted mother Vernette Gant, loving sister Alice Jackson, beloved children Cansondra Grant, Alisa Grant Carter and Delvin Grant, her treasured grandchildren Le'Ane McKenzie, Christopher Carter and Janal Carter, adored great grandchildren Nia McKenzie an Karson McKenzie, Her partner Benard "Nard Nard" Parnell proceeded her in death in 1999 and her brother Jesse Phillips returned home in 2004. Jessie also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as countless other family members and friends. Nanna you will be missed.
