Betty Jane Chamberlain Leary passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the age of sixty-four. She lost her battle with cancer, but was blessed to pass away at home with her family support.

She was born in Murray, Utah, June 19, 1947 to Timothy Jay Chamberlain and Kathryn Mutch Chamberlain.

Her childhood and early adult years were spent in Midvale, Utah, where she attended public schools and developed an abiding love of the creative arts and teaching.

Following graduation from Hillcrest High School, she attended the University of Utah where she received her degree in Child Development in 1969 and her Masters Degree and Teaching Certificate in 1970.

On August 19, 1970, she married George Edward Leary Jr. in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She moved with him to San Diego, California and commenced developing her talents in teaching and painting.

After completion of active duty with the Navy, they returned to Sandy, Utah, where she spent the remainder of her days.

Besides raising her five children, Betty developed her many talents by learning to play the acoustic and electric guitar and the banjo with "Casual Company". She learned and then taught clogging to dozens of kids in the "Sand Kicker Cloggers".

Betty taught kindergarten for twenty years, the last five at Summit Academy in Draper, Utah where she enjoyed teaching the kids and greatly valued her fellow teachers and staff, as friends.

She was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She fulfilled all callings with love but especially enjoyed her years with the Young Women.

She finished her service as a volunteer with her husband at the Oquirrh Chapel of the Utah State Prison and as a volunteer at the Draper Temple.

Her legacy will be the lives of her children, grandchildren, and the hundreds of children she taught.

Those who knew her and saw her watercolor paintings were impressed by her talent and skill in creating moods and beauty. Her paintings were often recreations of places and experiences from her life.

(Michelle) Leary of West Jordan, Jody (Jared) Heaton of Draper, Megan (Michael) Heaton of Sandy, Brandon Leary of North Salt Lake, and Brianne (Scott) Poulsen of Draper; fifteen grandchildren; sisters, Karma Bithell of Farmington and Gayle (Shannon) White of Nephi; sister-in-law, Claudia Chamberlain, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; mother-in-law, Louise B.
