Bessie "Marie" Ratcliff, 92, Martinsville, passed from this life on Monday, October 24th, 2011 at 3:55 pm at the Indiana University Health Morgan Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born February 10th, 1919 in Morgan County, Indiana to the late Fred E. and Della (Taylor) Cook.
Mrs. Ratcliff lived on her farm in Morgan County for over 60 years. She worked for over thirteen years for both IGA and Hook's Drug Store, both in Martinsville. She retired in 1985.
She was a member of the Hynsdale Christian Church in Martinsville. She enjoyed living on the farm, canning, gardening and crafts.
She married Shirley Eugene Ratcliff on October 5th, 1940; he preceded her in death on September 26, 1967. She was also preceded in death by her two daughters, Carol Jean Ratcliff and Mayfra Anne Malan, one brother, Basil Cook, four sisters, Bernice Gordon, Beulah Emrich, Beatrice Clark and Bertha Kinder, one grandson, Eugene Wayne Malan and one great granddaughter, Rachael Marie Malan and several nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind two grandsons, Tom (Judy) Malan of Indianapolis and Jim (Marcie) Malan of Martinsville, great grandchildren, Ronald, Jace, Keara and John Malan and her son-in-law, Ron Malan all of Martinsville.
Friends are invited to visit Friday, October 28th from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center. Rev. Al Johnson will officiate a service celebrating her life to begin Friday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Martinsville.
