HOMER, Neb. -- Merrill D. Boyd, 86, of rural Homer passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Gene Stockton, pastor of Heartland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Walthill, Neb., with a military flag presentation. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.., at the funeral home.
Merrill was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Pender, Neb., the son of Flay and Margie M. (Tipton) Boyd.
He married Francis Christianson on Feb. 15, 1955. She died on Jan. 12, 1977. He then married his second wife, Evelyn, in 1992. She died in 1994. He was employed at Armour Packing Company and retired from Swift Packing Company.
Survivors include three sons, Terry Boyd of rural Homer, Tommy and his wife, Sally Boyd of McCook Lake, S.D., Patrick Boyd of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Mandy (Keith) Wilde, David and Daniel Boyd; three great-grandchildren, Tylor Boyd, Keaton and Nevaeh Wilde; a great-great-granddaughter, Sophie Ericksen; and a dear friend, Linda Matney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Flay Boyd Jr.
Pallbearers will be Keith Wilde, Tylor, David and Daniel Boyd, Robert and Wendell Guy.
