Victor Braden, 68, of 724 LaPlaisance St. died at 10:55 p.m. yesterday at the Mercy Hospital Unit where he was admitted Thursday. Friends may call after 7 tonight at the Rupp Funeral Home where services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Eldon Shaner of the Free Will Methodist Church of Monroe will officiate and burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, LaSalle, Mi.
The son of John and Carla Braden, he was born Sept. 21, 1904, in Speedwell, Tenn. On March 11, 1923, he married Mildred Maude Mayes in Middlesboro, Ky. She proceded him in death, Dec. 29, 1968. On Feb. 27, 1971, he married Woodie (Susie) Welch in Monroe. A resident of Monroe since 1926, he was employed by the Consolidated Packaging Co. until his retirement in 1962. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1920 to 1922. Surviving in addition to his wife, Woodie, are 5 sons, Victor, Jr. of Lake Tahoe, Calif., Paul of Atlanta, Ga., Dan R. of Saratoga, Calif. Ralph of Encino, Calif., and Joseph Martin at home; a stepson, Paul Welch of Monroe; 2 daughters, Mrs. LaVerne (E. Ruth) Moore and Mrs. Robert D. (Betty J.) Morse, both of Monroe; 3 brothers, William of Speedwell, Tenn., Claude of Middlesboro, Ky., and Edward of Maryville, Tenn; 4 half brothers, Ernest of Speedwell, Kenneth of Newport, Mi., John of Riverview, Mi., and Ira of Arkansas; 3 sisters, Mrs. Abby VanZant, Mrs. Minnie Haynes and Mrs. Francis Medley, all of LaFollette, Tenn; 3 half sisters; Mrs. Edna Thomas of Speedwell and Mrs. Fama Lewis and Mrs. Lodie Hooten, both of Dayton, Ohio, and 27 grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Donna Schmidt of Monroe, preceded him in death Nov. 26, 1962 and a brother, Conrad Paris Braden of Monroe, preceded him on Oct. 13, 1972.
