David M. Bodily passed away on April 20, 2008, in the presence of his family after a courageous struggle with brain cancer.

David was born on December 16, 1933 to L.D. and Norma Bodily. He was raised on the family farm in Lewiston, Utah where he was taught the value of hard work by his father and the importance of education by his mother.

Together, his parents taught him kindness. David married his loving wife, BethAlene Judy on August 28, 1958, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They raised 4 children and were blessed with 21 grandchildren.

David served three LDS Church missions to Japan. At 19, he fulfilled a three year mission in the Northern Far East Mission. His love of Japan never diminished and he later served two missions with his wife in the Tokyo South and Tokyo North Missions.

He graduated from BYU with a bachelor's and master's degree. He obtained his PhD in chemistry from Cornell University and spent his post doctorate research at Northwestern University. David served over thirty years as a professor at the University of Utah. He was Chair of the Fuels Engineering and Chemical Engineering Departments and Associate Dean of the College of Mines and Earth Sciences.

He spent sabbaticals in Japan and Australia. David's research accomplishments live on through his students and his many academic publications. David loved service. He fulfilled many Church callings at all levels.

For seven years, he was a religious volunteer at the Utah State Prison providing hope to all he met. In his final Church calling, he and his wife served as nursery leaders.

David is survived by his wife, his four children, Robert (Stephanie), Becky (Roger deceased) Buehner, Tim (Susan), Chris (Holly) and his sister and four brothers, Donald (Gerda), Stephen (Beverly), Norman (Marilyn), Eileen (Eric) Lyons, and Samuel (Joleen).
