Charlotte Lucreitia Raby, went by the nickname Lottie all of her life. She came from humble beginnings. Although, her father served in the Civil War under General Grant and her mother watched over the children. She had limited education only attending to third grade due to the demands of home life. Lottie was known for her beauty and caught the eye of Virgil, a beautiful, handsome Cherokee Native, that she loved in her teens. Lottie herself was of Cherokee descent. For some reason, she did not marry him, but met Thomas Arol Raby whom she wed when she was 18 years of age. She took up the life of following her husband as he moved from different places as a sheep herder throughout Arkansas/Oklahoma. She did take up odd jobs along the way, mostly in housekeeping, and worked in canneries in California to help supplement the family income. Lottie & Tom were married 5 years before having their first child, Edna, followed by another daughter, Virgie whom she named after her first love Virgil, and two sons (Tom & Marvin). Lottie & Tom ended up settling in San Jose, CA where they resided until their deaths.
