Oklahoma Governor. He was an ordained Methodist Minister and moved to Chautauqua County, Kansas, where he preached and taught school. He purchased and edited the Sedan Republican newspaper, (1889-91), moved to Watonga, Oklahoma Territory, in 1892 and established the Watonga Republican newspaper. There he was appointed Postmaster of Watonga, in 1897. In 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt appointed Ferguson as a Republican the 6th Governor of Oklahoma, serving until 1906. After leaving office, he continued to publish newspapers until his death at age 63.
