Came to US 1833

John W. Bussing, 80, died Sunday of infirmities due to old age at his home 606 Gum St. He had lived in Evansville for more than 52 years, being in the dry greeds business 52 years ago with B. Shapker on Main St. where the Courier building now stands. He was the oldest member of St. Mary's Catholic church and came to the United States from Buchholz, Westphalia [Germany] in 1833. He remained for a year in Cincinnati and then came to Evansville. When he reached Evansville, it had a population of 1.200. In 1860 he went into business. He was the oldest member of St. Joseph's and St. Michael's aid societies. He leaves a wife and the following children: Benj. J. Bussing; Geo. H. Bussing of Galeton, Pa.; Jos. W. Bussing, Mrs. W. H. Plenkenpol of Cleveland, and Edward and Charles Bussing. The funeral services will be at St. Mary's church but the time has net been fixed.
