US Congressman. Born in Maxton, North Carolina, he graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1886, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1890 and commenced to practice law in Maxton. He was a member of the North Carolina State House of Representatives, (1899-1901). In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1907. An unsuccessful canidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law in Maxton, North Carolina, until his death at age 58.
