Joseph Blancett

Joseph, & John Blancett laid out the town of Blanchester on March 6, 1832. The name was given to Blanchester by Joseph & John Blancett, "Blan" from their name & "Chester" meaning town or village. There is little recorded history of the Blancett family, except that Harriet Blancett, who married Jonathan Baldwin, in Warren County, was a sister of Joseph & John Blancett. They came from Virginia to Ohio.
Lot number one was occupied by Joseph Blancett, who was the first merchant, in a hewed log house. The first buildings were all made of logs. He carried a general line of groceries, notions & such other articles as would be found in a store of that day.
Elias Blancett was the son of Joseph & Hannah Beetle Blancett, & was born January 22, 1832, & died 1n 1911. Four weeks after the birth of Elias, Joseph & his wife & son removed to the first house erected in this village,February 22,1832, which now stands on Center Street, & is owned by C.C. Brown.
From the obituary of Elias Blancett, we find that Joseph died in 1845, leaving a family of four boys & five girls.
