Actor. He performed in over 450 roles in his prolific acting career. He started as a stage actor, but transitioned to silent movies in 1913 with “The Snake”. Starting about 1930, he often had uncredited roles such as a “policeman” or “sheriff” in cowboy movies; about half of the roles in his life-time were uncredited. At six-feet tall and a large frame, he usually played the role of a powerful man. In 1938 he appeared with Lou Gehrig in “Rawhide”. Between 1950 and 1953, he had a role in three episodes of the TV series “The Lone Ranger”; his played a white-haired bartender. In 1953, he appeared as General Lee in the black and white movie, “San Antone”; this was his last film. He used a variety of names in his credits: L.C. Shumway, Lee C. Shumway, Leon C. Shumway, and Leonard C. Shumway.
