Beulah C. Bartlett was bom May 19, 1902 at Holmesville, NE, the
daughter of Hezekiah (Hez) Daniel Cullen and Bertha (Bertie) Ellen
Switzer Cullen. She passed away Saturday, February 6, 1999 in the
Meadowlark Hills Health Care Center, Manhattan at the age of 96 years,
8 morrths and l7 days.
She grew up in Holmesville, where she attended the local schools
and was graduated from the Holmesville High School in 1921. After high
school, she graduated from normal training and taught school in the
Bameston, NE community for several years. In 1930, she graduated from
the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a degree rn Home Economics.
She was united in marriage to Clarence E. Bartlett on June 25, 1930
at Holmesville. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1998.
Mrs. Bartlett lived in Nelson, NE for a short time before moving to
the Bartlett family farm near Bird City, KS. She lived there from 1932
until 1937. Mrs. Bartlett followed her husband in his career with the
KSU Extension Service, first living in Jewell County, KS and later in
Goodland, KS. In 1948 she moved to Clay Center, KS and was active in
the community until moving to Manhattan in the mid 1980's.
Mrs. Bartlett was a homemaker and had taught piano in her home
for several years. She was a bookkeeper for her husband for over 25
years.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Bartlett was a member of the First
United Methodist Church, Manhattan. Wherever she lived, she was an
active member of the church, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday
School.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bartlett was preceded in death by
two sons, Larry E. Bartlett in January 1980 and Edward D. Bartlett in
October 1979; her parents; and two brothers, Rolland Cullen and Charles
Cullen.
Survivors include a son, Fred Bartlett, Grand Rapids, MI; two
daughters, Patricia A. Schlender, Manhattan and Janet E. Coffinan,
Tulsa, OK; one brother, John E. Cullen, Stevens Point, WI; l5
grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and
