Sarah Lack Orr, age 97, loving mother of 4, grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 26, died peacefully on October 25, 2011. Sarah was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and moved to Houston when she married Morris Weiser. While living in Houston, Freeport, Corpus Christi, McAllen, Beaumont and then returning to Houston, Sarah raised her 4 daughters, Sue Marks, Marilyn Kashy, Louise Sacks of blessed memory and Barbara Brookner. In 1977, Sarah married Henry Orr of McAllen, the father of Joseph Orr. Throughout her life, Sarah was active in her Jewish communities, a life member of Hadassah, Sisterhood President in Corpus Christi and, as well, she worked alongside her brothers in their numerous businesses. Sarah was the fifth of six children born to Solomon and Fannie Lack. She became the matriarch of an extended family and is survived by over 100 nieces and nephews who truly loved her for her total acceptance of their individual selves. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry, her brothers Abe Lack, Sam Lack, Ed Lack and David Lack, her sister Rose Hamovit, her daughter Louise and her granddaughter Lisa Marks Margolis. Sarah's legacy is her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was never happier than the many times when she was surrounded by all "her children" at family events, even when she had trouble remembering all their names. Sarah spent the last 18 years of her life at the Hampton at Post Oak where she led an active retired life. She was a natural to serve on the Hampton's welcoming committee with her sweet and open personality. Even in her later years, she never complained about anything. During her last years, she was supported by exceptional caregivers, Tammy Phillips, Betty Livings and Joyce Hines. Sarah's daughters are greatly appreciative of these dedicated women who cared for Sarah as one of their own. Burial services will be held 4:30 pm October 27, 2011, at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Temple Fund at Congregation Emanu El or the charity of your choice .
