U.S. Congressman. Born near Pontiac, Michigan, he moved to New York City, in 1890 and engaged in the importation of edible oils. Moving to Ohio, in 1900, he was a reporter for a Cleveland newspaper and was successful in the real estate business. In 1911, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second and Sixty-third Congresses, serving until 1915. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his former business pursuits. In 1917, he was again elected to the Sixty-fifth Congress and served until his death at age 54 in Akron, Ohio.
