Her funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m.; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alverta Reilly was born Alverta Estella Iverson on December 31, 1921, to Knudt and Lulua (McMillan) Iverson in Carpenter, SD. She was raised in Carpenter, attended Fairview Country School, and graduated from Yale High School. She attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen where she completed a 2-year program and graduated with a degree as a teacher in 1939. She taught school until 1962.
On June 18, 1944, Alverta married Thomas Reilly in Huron, where they made their home.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, VFW Auxiliary, VFW Christmas Hobby Fair, Catholic Daughters, TOPS, and BCNU Extension Club. Her many interests included crocheting, knitting, crafts, and cake decorating. Although having no children of her own, Alverta was a grandmother to all her nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids.
She is survived by 5 brothers, Marvin (Mildred) Iverson of Brookings, Alvin (Edna) Iverson of Huron, Lealand (Kathy) Iverson of Doland, Delmar (Barb) Iverson of Huron, and Gerould (Darlene) Iverson of Worthington, MN; and 1 sister, Marvilyn (Doug) Albright of Cavour.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas on January 18, 1998; 1 brother, Arnold; an infant sister, Joyce; and 2 nephews.
