“Mrs. Jennie Harper, wife of Marion Harper, a well-known farmer of Pleasant Mound township, died at her home two miles southwest of Fairview at eight o’clock Friday morning after a long illness of anaemia. Mrs. Harper had been sick for seven or eight years, and although she had been in bed for two weeks, her death was rather sudden and was a great shock to her family. Mrs. Harper got suddenly worse about midnight and died eight hours afterward. Mrs. Harper’s maiden name was Jennie Titus. She was the daughter of the late Wesley and Elizabeth Titus and her death is the fourth in the Titus family since 1903. She was born in Franklin county, Ohio, August 5, 1858, and was aged 56 years, 11 months, and 11 days at the time of her death. With her parents she came to Bond County in 1874 and located near Smithboro. She was married to Marion Harper on March 4, 1884, and they have lived together on their farm near Fairview ever since. Mr. Harper and one daughter, Miss Emma, who lives at home, survive. One child, Anna, died September 30, 1891 at the age of four and a half years. Surviving also are three brothers, Sergeant C. W. Titus, of the United States army, retired, of San Antonio, Texas; David Titus, of Collinsville; and H. B. Titus of Smithboro; and one sister, Mrs. Maude Jones of South Bend, Ind. Sergeant Titus could not come to the funeral on account of the illness of his wife, and Mrs. Jones could not come on account of being ill herself. Mr. and Mrs. David Titus and son, Charles, of Collinsville, came to the funeral. Mrs. Titus was a member of the M. E. church of Fairview, which she joined in June 1913. She was also a member of the Pleasant Mound Court of Honor. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Pleasant Mound at 10:30 a.m. Sunday by Rev. Fred Dothager and the burial took place in the Maxey Cemetery. William Borror, an uncle, of South Bend was here to attend the funeral. Mrs. Harper is the fourth one of the Titus family who has been called by death. Mr. Titus, her father, died January 7, 1903. Mrs. Titus in 1912, and a brother, E. S. Titus, a Greenville merchant died February 20, 1914.”
