She was born on November 11, 1892 in Providence, Utah, the daughter of Sarah Elizabeth Bullock and Henry August Bissegger. She was the sixth of ten children. Her early life was spent helping at home and working on the family farm. She attended schools in Providence, the Brigham Young College, and the Utah State Agricultural College, in Logan. She was an ardent student and after finishing her lessons would often take the time to help her friends and others with theirs. She married Jacob Ephraim Skabelund on February 23, 1912 in Salt Lake City, Utah and they lived and worked happily together for sixty four years, until his death in 1976. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She continued to care for a beloved invalid daughter, Lola, until she died in 1986. She was active in the LDS Church, working in most of the auxiliary organizations, and was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was the queen of the 24th of July Parade in 1988 and honorary queen the following year. When they were in their 80's, Lola and Jake won the coveted, "Home of the Week Award", for their lovely home and gardens. She loved her flowers and shared them with many people. Lola has a great love for her children and grandchildren, keeping in touch with them and enjoying their company in her beautiful and immaculate home.She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Joseph Howard and Utahna Skabelund, Lynn A.[Lynn August] and Gwen Skabelund, Robert E. and Lorraine Skabelund, all of Logan, Utah. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Peter, a daughter Lola, and all her sisters and a brother.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 1995 at 1 p.m. in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center, Logan, with Bishop Daniel Birschbach conducting. Friends may call at the mortuary on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
